Spirometry is the method by which to test the body's respiratory systems. The respiratory system functions in order to provide the body with oxygen while removing carbon dioxide. By using spirometry equipment or spirometers, a physician can determine whether a patient has any pulmonary diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, chronic dyspnea, lung disease, bronchitis, and COPD, or chronic pulmonary disease. Spirometry works by measuring the air flow and volume of a patient's breath. Patients are instructed to exhale into the spirometer with the deepest breath they can, as long as they can. This test in turn provides results as to the condition of the patient's pulmonary condition. Jaken Medical carries spirometers from many manufacturers including Micro Direct, Midmark, MIR, NDD, Schiller, and Welch Allyn.
