California COVID-19 Current Events

As for current events in our beautiful state of California, COVID-19 related headlines are all that seem to be of concern at the moment. There are a few major topics that we wanted to touch on, as it affects the medical community at large.

First, on March 30th, California Health Corps was announced as an action to increase the healthcare labor pool to greater combat COVID-19. “Health care professionals with active license, public health professionals, medical retirees, medical and nursing students, or members of medical disaster response teams in California are all encouraged to join the new California Health Corps,” said the office of Governor Gavin Newsom.

On April 4th, California officials launched a one-stop website, https://covid19supplies.ca.gov/, for donations of medical equipment and supplies to fight COVID-19. “The website will allow individuals and companies to donate, sell or offer to manufacture 13 of the most essential medical supplies, including ventilators, N95 respirators and testing materials,” said the office of Governor Newsom.

Governor Newsom also announced a California Testing Task Force, a “public-private collaboration that will work with stakeholders across the state to quickly and significantly boost California’s testing capacity”. The Task Force intends to ramp up testing as demand increases.

Lastly, on April 6th the state of California donated 500 ventilators back to the national stockpile in efforts to help other states in need, such as New York. “California is stepping up to help our fellow Americans in New York and across the country who are being impacted the hardest right now by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Governor Newsom.
